Campaigns & Policy

4Children has shaped and influenced social and economic policy for children and families for over 30 years. From our consistent campaigning for high quality, affordable childcare to our leading campaigns for early years, children's centres, young people and family support, 4Children works at the highest levels to shape policy and practice.

4Children campaigns all have one thing in common – they are about putting the needs of children and families at the top of the agenda. Using our policy and research work together with our experience of providing services for children and families, we lobby Government and other opinion formers to reduce inequalities for disadvantaged families and make the changes necessary to deliver our vision – a society where every child in every community has the chance to achieve their full potential and every parent has the support they need to enable their family to flourish.

Current campaign: Britain’s Families: Thriving or Surviving?

With a new government and a five year term ahead, 4Children wanted to take a fundamental look at family life in modern Britain. We wanted to get out and about asking families up and down the country about their daily lives – using their experiences to inform our campaigning. We wanted to know the opportunities and challenges they face and whether, across Britain, the benefits of economic recovery were reaching our families.

In June 2015, we began to dig into the hopes, fears and aspirations of our country’s families. Over six months we spoke in depth to hundreds of parents, carers, children and young people, and heard from thousands of others about their current situations and their expectations of their futures. Our inquiry paints a picture of what they told us – and the themes which emerge will inform our priorities over the next few years.
