London Family Hero 2014 - George Mizen

George is a young man of 15 who has shown bravery and maturity beyond his years, when approaching his 9th birthday his older brother Jimmy was murdered in an unprovoked attack.

Following that tragic day, George and his family decided to start The Jimmy Mizen Foundation in his brother’s memory to help build a legacy of peace. George has worked tirelessly fundraising for the foundation, helping to raise in excess of £100,000.

Unfortunately only several months ago George was mugged and threatened with a knife by another youth close to where Jimmy was killed. George although frightened, showed extraordinary compassion and was adamant that he didn’t want the boy to go to prison.

Following the death of his brother, George has also taken on the role as a second carer to his older sister who has Downs Syndrome.
