Today is an important and interesting day for many young people. The Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Day 2014 provides many with the chance to ‘takeover’ and participate in real decision making processes.
So what would I do if I were to take part in the ultimate takeover and become Prime Minister for the day? I would pursue an area close to my heart: children, schools and families. I have always been a firm believer that education is the best way to improve life chances and opportunities. I owe almost everything to the fantastic teachers that have supported me along the way. I hope that children say that about my mother too, being the dedicated and fantastic primary school teacher that she is.
If I were Prime Minister, I would work to strengthen our schools. I would encourage businesses and industry experts to enter the classroom and provide first-hand experience as an inspiration for students to achieve the very best that they can. I would increase support of childcare to parents. And I would want to ensure that no matter your background or academic ability, that there is always a pathway for people to continue education or training - that way, the doors for our young people are truly limitless.
